USMINT
Blanking is the process of punching out coins of a sheet of metal 13 inches by 1500 feet. The left over metal is chopped up and recycled.
2.Annealing, Washing and Drying
The coins are heated in a furnace which softens the coins. They are then put in a washer and dryer.
3.Upsetting
The coins are now put on a upsetting mill which raises the rim around the edges.
4.Striking
The coins finally reach a coin pressing machine. Here they are pressed with a design and inscription which makes it a genuine U.S. coin.
5.Inspecting
The new coins are inspected for misses or flaws.
6.Counting and Bagging
A counting machine counts and puts them into large bags. They are then moved to storage where trucks are waiting to be taken to banks.
